Title: Downturn issues and opportunities for owner
managed businesses (including April 2009 Budget update)

Lee Blackshaw is a Chartered Tax Adviser and Registered Trust & Estate Practitioner.   He spent most of his early career at Kidsons specialising in capital taxes, family businesses and trusts.  He then spent a few years working on tax scheme work for a boutique before joining PwC in 2006.  Lee is on the Manchester branch committee of the Chartered Institute of Taxation.  His main work at PwC is on the tax issues of entrepreneurs and owners of private companies, including inheritance tax, exit planning, succession, wealth protection and trusts.

Topic - Faced with the most unprecedented economic conditions in living memory, the issue of improving the financial position of a business, whether through cash generation, debt refinancing or cost reduction, has risen to the top of the boardroom agenda.  Executives that have a strategy to manage through a downturn will be better placed to take advantage of the opportunities available today, and will emerge from the bad times re-energised and fit for the future.  From scenario planning, cost reduction and cash generation, through to people, risk and stakeholder management, Lee will explore some practical steps that businesses can take to manage a downturn.
