The session is titled "The Professional Big Bang" and will discuss the effects of the Legal Services Act on the future shape of professional practices and the opportunities for solicitors, accountants and financial advisers to interact to their mutual advantage.

Ian Muirhead is a solicitor who started his career with a major City firm and then went into industry as Personnel Director, Company Secretary and Legal Adviser. He subsequently reverted to private practice and established a financial planning department as a partner at TWM Solicitors in Surrey. This led to his being asked by other law firms to assist them to become involved in financial services and in 1992 he set up SIFA with this objective. SIFA is now the recognised trade body for solicitor financial advisers and has extended its membership to include accountancy IFAs and financial planners who work with professional practices. Ian was a founder member of the Law Society’s Financial Services working party and is the author of a number of publications, the best known of which is the Trustinvest handbook of investment for trustees.
