Extra resolve for a
happier New Year
Next year I may
just resolve not to
make New
Year’s
resolutions. Like
most people,
I start the
year
with very worthy intentions, only
to fall at the
first caramel latte.
But for all the resolutions that
fall by the way side,
there’s one
everyone should stick to with
unswerving diligence; making
sure your finances are in order.
(It
may not sound as exhilarating
as ‘learning to ghyll scramble’
or as immediately gratifying as
‘losing 10lbs’ but, in the long
run, it’ll bring far more fulfilment.)
Fine tuning your finances often
gets overlooked, in
fact, many
of the new contacts we spoke
to last year
admitted
they don’t
spend time getting to grips with
their
finances
and don’t actually
know if their investments are
on track.
Now, this isn’t a call to arms to say ‘come to Xentum’ (although you’re more than welcome) it’s merely a gentle nudge, well, ok then, a hefty shove to keep an eye on your personal finances yourself, or put a reputable adviser in charge. Make sure you have an annual review, we can’t stress enough how important that is, and you should also ask about the increasingly complex matter of taxation, to make the most of tax allowances and ensure you’re as tax efficient as possible.
To help you keep your resolution, we’re hosting a Private Client Discussion Group in February on the hot topic of wealth protection, which will cover pre-marital agreements, legal rights of cohabitants and the use of trusts to protect family wealth in the event of marriage or relationship breakdown.
By offering first rate advice and keeping you updated (the next quarterly newsletter will be with you in April), we’re hoping we can do our bit to make it a very happy New Year indeed.
