Entrepreneurial drive will help lead recovery

1st April 2010

Entrepreneurial spirit is thriving despite a tough economic climate according to Xentum's Adam Carolan who attended the latest Envestors event at Manchester’s Hilton Hotel.

More than 70 potential investors attended the Dragons' Den style event hosted by Envestors, who specialise in matching entrepreneurs with investors, to listen to six founders of fledgling companies pitch their businesses as investment opportunities.

The founder and managing director of iteddy and Dragons' Den success story Imran Hakim helped introduce entrepreneurs whose companies ranged from; specialists in posture improving car seats to a telecommunications business that has developed groundbreaking technology to route mobile phone calls through a landline.

Such investment opportunities are considered high risk but with that comes the chance of greater financial reward. Some qualify for the Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) which gives significant tax breaks.

Adam Carolan, Private Client Manager for Xentum said: "There were some really exciting presentations on the day and it was great to see that entrepreneurial spirit hasn't been crushed by the current economic climate. It's companies such as these that will lead the UK's recovery. For the right investor who is prepared to have an element of high risk within their investment portfolio this could be a very exciting option. It also gives investors with entrepreneurial flair the opportunity to share their skills and knowledge with the company they have invested in to further bolster its chances of success."
